ISSUE 9: 30th APRIL 2021
Principal / Executive Leadership Team
Mrs Jacqui Willis (Nangare Classroom Teacher) has informed us that she will be finishing at Sacred Heart at the end of Term Two. With her family Jacqui will be relocating to Bendigo. We will be advertising from this weekend replacement teachers for both Jacqui and Mrs Bianca Niutta (Myalla) who will also finish at the end of this term.
Guided Learning Walks (2022 Enrolments) are happening on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. Walks will take place at the following times - 9.30am, 12.30pm & 6pm. This is a great opportunity for new families to see how learning happens at Sacred Heart. We do have some spaces for tours if existing families would like to join us on any of the tours. Please call the Office to book in a time.
Hats won’t need to be worn at school from now. This will be a good opportunity to have them washed and returned to school ready for them to be worn again from the beginning of September.
Good luck to the students who will be running at the School Sports Victoria (SSV) Division Cross Country at the Aerodrome Ovals on Thursday.
On Wednesday Karinya and Bundaleer will be participating in the Parish Mass at the church. Students will do some of the readings and jobs throughout the Mass. This celebration will begin at 9.30am and parents are welcome to attend.
On Friday Yongana will host our Assembly starting at 2.30pm in the stadium.
Thank you to Mrs O’Callaghan and Miss Sheridan for organising the Prep Breakfast this morning. It was a very early start for the students but they enjoyed the opportunity.
As part of a new government requirement, we now have QR Code signage throughout the school that is linked to the State Government database. Please scan the QR Code when entering school grounds if you are onsite for more than 15 minutes. These are positioned at various points around the school.
Our Mother’s Day Stall will be held on Friday and students will be able to purchase an item from the stall for $5. Parents can make payment through CDF Pay (which has been set up) or some may choose to bring in cash. Children will come as a class to the stall and choose from a range of items that will be available. If you are free and would like to help we will require parent helpers on the stall between 8:30am & 11am, please contact the office and leave your contact details and the time you are available. All money raised is used to purchase resources for your children.
Our Cross Country was a brilliant event on Wednesday which brought our school community together. Well done to all students for their efforts and thanks to all staff for contributing to the organisation and running of the day. Special thanks to Mr Burford for his overall coordination of the Cross Country and thanks to Ag Gray in the canteen and the Knights of the Southern Cross for preparing sausages for everyone. Well done to Murray as the champion team for 2021!
Thank you to all of our student leaders who proudly represented Sacred Heart at the ANZAC Day Commemorative Service. Thank you to Mrs Deacon for the organisation of the students. Thank you to the parents who brought the students along to this very important day outside of school time.
It was great to have Phil Kettle & Marc McBride working with our students for our Author & Illustrator Day. There were many positive comments from our students. Thanks to Mrs Collins for her coordination and organisation of this visit.
In the week from 10th-14th May our Grade 3 and 5 students will be participating in the ‘National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy’ (NAPLAN). Please see your child’s teacher if you have any queries or concerns regarding NAPLAN.
Congratulations to Mrs Danielle Gunn and her husband Lewis on the arrival of their daughter Bonnie James Gunn who was born yesterday weighing 8lbs 1 oz.

Enrolment processes have commenced for new Prep students in 2022 at Sacred Heart. We are currently taking enrolment applications. We have changed enrolment processes with an aim to strengthen students' transition into school. With the school being limited to only two class groupings in 2022 we encourage families to hand in their Application for Enrolment form before 21st May. Advertising in the newspaper and television will be promoting enrolment in our Sunraysia Catholic schools over April and May. Below is our process for enrolment:
- 1st April: Enrolment Applications are open.
- Tuesday 4th, Wednesday 5th & Thursday 6th May at 9:30am, 12:30pm & 6pm: Guided Learning Walk to see facilities and learning at the school. This is a great opportunity for prospective or existing families to see learning at Sacred Heart.
- Friday 21st May: ‘Application for Enrolment’ closes and needs to be emailed to office@shmildura.catholic.edu.au or handed in at the School Office.
- Monday 10th-Friday 28th May: In groups for an enrolment interview that takes around 40 minutes for prospective students and a parent, parents or guardian. Parents will be contacted to arrange a meeting time after the Enrolment Application Form is received. Below is a national fact sheet for parents, guardians and carers about the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). Please take some time to read about what the NCCD is, why data gets collected and the benefits of the NCCD for our students. Hard copies of the information sheet can be collected from the office. They can be found in the note holders as you walk into the office area.
Learning & Teaching News
As parents were informed at the start of 2021, all year levels make the transition from a hard copy Learning Portfolio to a Digital Portfolio using the online platform Seesaw.
The Digital Learning Portfolio is a collection of student work where students will create, reflect, share, and collaborate to show their learning using photos, videos, labels and more and share with families during the year.
The portfolio is simply a collection of authentic assessment samples teachers have planned from across the semester that support and supplement the judgements expressed in the formal reports.
Login details were sent out in Term 1 to parents, however if you are still unable to view your child’s work on Seesaw please contact the classroom teachers.
Prep Unit News
The Prep students had a wonderful time this morning at their Prep Breakfast. They were waited on by the Junior Unit teachers in the Prep Restaurant having cereal, toast and juice. After breakfast the preps took part in some extra special, fun activities. They made fruit loop necklaces, Mr Squiggle art work and a caterpillar fruit kebab.

What a fantastic Cross Country day! Thank you to our helpers and spectators for your time and assistance.
This term we continue to focus on our ‘Tricky Words’, (located in the back pages of your child/rens diary) and encourage our students to practice these words regularly at home. Students may choose to read them aloud, write them, use them in sentences, make pictures out of them or play games with these words.
Next Friday (7th May) is our Mother’s day stall. All Junior Unit Students will have the opportunity to purchase a gift from the table of presents. Should you wish for your child/ren to participate, please ensure that you have made your payment through CDF Pay or they can bring their $5 with them on Friday. If you choose to send the money along to school earlier in the week, please arrange this with their teacher.
