ISSUE 33: October 20th, 2022
Principal / Executive Leadership Team
Dear Parents, Carers, Staff, Students and Friends,
Welcome to our Week Three Newsletter.
2023 Planning
Planning is under way for the 2023 school year, with consideration being given to the structure of the classrooms and staffing in the school. Whilst there is plenty of time for this to be formalised, it is important that this is organised effectively so that all of the students can make an easy transition and have a successful start to the upcoming school year. Next week we will send information out in regards to a Class Placement Survey that will give parents the opportunity to put forward any requests/considerations for your child’s education for the 2023 school year. Please be mindful that staffing arrangements have not been finalised and this won’t be an opportunity to nominate preferred teachers for your child/children.
If you know your family are moving next year, could you please advise the office as soon as possible (if you have not already done so) to aid with planning for classes for next year. Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Sports Equipment
Lately we have noticed some students bringing their own sports equipment from home to use at lunch and recess time. As a school we have a large amount of equipment available at school for students to use and therefore shouldn’t be brought to school. Personal downballs can be brought to school.
Year 6 Swim & Survive
The Year Six Swim & Survive Program is being held this week from Monday to Friday. Dourim will attend from 12.45-1.30pm each day and Narooma will attend from 1.30-2.15pm.
School Advisory Council AGM
The Sacred Heart Annual General Meeting is being held this Tuesday night at 6pm. Any parents interested are invited to attend. This meeting will be held in the staff room. Pizza and drinks will be provided after the meeting.
We still have vacancies on our Advisory Council as some of our current members will complete their term of office. If you would like to be nominated as a council member, please contact the Office for a nomination form. If you have any questions about the role of a council member, please don't hesitate to speak to one of our current members; Taryn Hunt, Racheal Fyfe, Amanda King, Eric Oguzkaya, Sarah Ryan and Warren Henderson or myself for further information.
School Advisory Council Meeting
Our School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting will be held on Tuesday, 26th October at 5:15pm in the staffroom. This will be a short meeting prior to the AGM. An agenda has been sent home to SAC members on Monday.
School Sports Victoria (SSV) T20 Cricket
We wish our Year 3/4 & Year 5/6 Cricket teams all the best for the T20 District Cricket which is being held at the Aerodrome Ovals on Wednesday 26th October.
Jessica Mauboy Back to Base School Engagement Performance
Well done to Alice for placing an entry into the Jess Mauboy Back to Base School Engagement Performance. This gives Alice a chance to win a ticket to Jessica’s soundcheck party and have the chance to meet her. If other students or groups of students would like to sing or perform their own or a Jessica Mauboy song we will happily post your recorded video via our school facebook page. Please send through to the office at school.
Mission Month
Today we had a fantastic day for our Mission efforts. The Collingwood jumper was auctioned off for an incredible $1500, with the Ribarits family being the successful family. The jumper was presented at today’s assembly and Assante was understandably excited being a mad Collingwood supporter. We also had a great day with our Staff Big Freeze. $1,044 was collected. We sincerely thank those who purchased tickets.
We are now into our final week of Mission Month fundraising. Icy Poles will be sold on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday this week. The SLT are selling home cooked goodies at recess on Wednesday & Thursday. Unit fundraisers continue and we conclude our Mission Month with the Colour Slime Run on Friday from 9am to 11am. Thanks to all families and staff for contributing to this year’s fundraising, everyone has done an amazing job. Special thanks to Mrs Carmichael, Mrs Guthrie and the Missions committee for their organisation and planning of events.
World Teachers Day (Friday 28th October)
Australia will celebrate teachers on World Teachers’ Day on Friday 28 October. We have already celebrated this day with a special morning tea a few weeks ago. On this day you can celebrate the teaching profession by posting a “hats off” selfie on social media or even send a message directly to your child’s teacher.

Learning Diversity News
The Hygge hut is pronounced “H-You- guh”. Hygge is a Danish word which roughly translates as: “cosiness” or the feeling of a hug. Hygge life is a Scandinavian custom that's centred on calm, inviting interiors. It also values abstract principles like contentment, cosiness, simplicity, relationships, and connection. Lime Therapy and Sacred Heart have been working together to create a Hygge hut space within the school, that will represent a departure from the traditional sensory room and will provide a retreat for our students to go during times they are feeling anxious, tired, overwhelmed or needing any sort of space or comfort. We believe Hygge is the perfect word to describe the space as it represents, a vibe; a doing word and a way of being.
The space will incorporate elements of the natural environment and provide a home for structured activity like mindfulness as well as simple activities like lying on a beanbag or chatting with a friend or teacher. We are aware we have parents and friends in our school community with just the right skills and passion to be involved in this project. If that is you, please contact me or give your name to the office. We are already collecting ideas from various spaces of serenity and calm within our wider community.

An increasing number of students are forgetting to charge their laptops overnight. We would greatly appreciate it if you could remind your child to do this, as charging laptops in the classroom environment is a safety hazard. It is also important practice for our students in becoming organised.
