ISSUE 19: 17th June, 2022
Principal / Executive Leadership Team
Dear Parents, Carers, Staff, Students and Friends,
I hope that you all had a lovely long weekend last week and had the opportunity to enjoy some downtime with your families. With only one week of Term Two remaining it is hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the school year.
Student Reports
First Semester reports are now available via your SIMON (PAM) account. If you have any issues accessing these please contact the school.
Parent Teacher Meetings
At Sacred Heart we view education as a joint venture between student, school and parent. We value parents as the first and most important educators of their children. Parent Teacher Interviews give you a great opportunity to learn more about your child's academic, emotional and social development and for you to meet and get to know your child's teachers.
Parent-Teacher meetings are being held at school this Tuesday & Wednesday afternoon beginning at 2.30pm. Teachers will meet with parents in your child’s classroom. Please be aware that interviews are 10 minutes in duration and we ask that both parents and teachers adhere to these times as best they can. Bookings are still open via SIMON (PAM). Please note that these will be closed at 12pm on Tuesday. You will need to contact the school if you wish to make a booking after this time.
Staffing Updates
We wish Ms Clare Taylor all the best as she goes on leave at the end of this term and we hope that all goes well with the upcoming birth. We thank Clare for her contribution to our school over the last 12 months with both Performing Arts lessons and her great work with our school choirs and school performances including Junior Unit Social and End of Year Concert last year.
Unfortunately we haven’t been able to replace Clare for our Performing Arts position after advertising on two separate occasions over this term. For the remainder of the 2022 school year Mrs Wendy Collins will now have a one hour Library lesson with classes each week. Students will borrow books and will also have a focus related to the year level curriculum. This might be a research focus in senior classrooms and literary appreciation in the younger year levels. We hope to be able to find a Performing Arts teacher for the 2023 school year.
Kaboom Kids Tabloid Sports
On Monday, 20th June from 9am-11am, all students will participate in a tabloid sports event facilitated by Kaboom Kids. Students are given the opportunity to enhance their skills in cooperation, leadership, teamwork and resilience while enjoying movement and fitness. Student Leaders guide and assist their multi-age group throughout the event. Parents are invited to come along and watch students participate in this fun event. All students will need to wear their Sports Uniform this Monday.

Sacred Heart Feast Day
Mass will be held at the Sacred Heart church at 9.30am. All parents, grandparents and friends are invited to join us for this special celebration.
Donations of gold coins, blankets and clean, warm clothing (in good condition) are being sought. Your child can bring these items on the day or leave them in the classroom any time prior to the Mass. A representative from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will be attending Mass and will accept our donations; these will then be distributed among those in need within our community. Many thanks in anticipation of your generosity.
Lunch will be provided for all children on this day.
Lunch will consist of hamburgers (bread roll and meat patty, with choice of lettuce, tomato and cheese, with or without sauce). If your child does not want a hamburger for lunch they will need to bring a packed one as there will be NO CANTEEN on this day.

A huge thank you to all Sacred Heart families who donated money towards this year’s Project Compassion. A total of $1319 was raised and deposited into the Caritas Ballarat Diocesan account. Learning Diversity News
Thank you to the parents who made time out of their busy schedules to attend their child’s Program Support Group (PSG) meeting this week. Term two goals, adjustments to learning programs to support students to successfully achieve the goals and evidence of progress of attainment of goals were discussed during the meetings. Term three goals were discussed and set.
If your child did not have a PSG meeting on Wednesday and Thursday this week and they have an Individualised Learning Program (ILP), you are encouraged to book a parent teacher interview time via SIMON. Term two and three goals will be discussed briefly. If you have any questions about the process, please contact Mrs Deacon.
As per post on our Facebook page: Dr John Hattie is well-known as being an education specialist who has devoted his life to helping educators understand the best ways that children learn. In this small book he teams up with his son Kyle, also a teacher, to explore the ways our parents can best support their children to become competent learners. This great little book is full of common sense and practical suggestions, and plenty of hope.
Learning and Teaching News
Reading storybooks to children is an enjoyable and incredibly important activity. Reading to children supports their language development, literacy skills and overall achievement in reading. Giving them time to practise their own reading skills, with an appropriate text, alongside a supportive adult is necessary in order for children to become confident and fluent readers.
Conversation about the text both during and after reading is invaluable. It supports children in consolidating their understanding of what is being read and helps them make connections to their own experiences.
Over the holidays we encourage children to continue to read- what a wonderful time to get lost in a good book and share reading as a family activity!
