ISSUE 18: 10th June, 2022
Principal / Executive Leadership Team
Dear Parents, Carers, Staff, Students and Friends,
Congratulations to the children who received the Sacrament of Confirmation last weekend. I had the pleasure of attending a few of the Masses and it was lovely to see so many families present. Special mention to Fr Matt for celebrating so many Masses with everyone.
Staffing Update
Mrs Rosmarie Zalec has informed me of her resignation of her Learning Support Officer position effective immediately. Rose has been an amazing contributor to the history of our school with 50 years of service occurring this year. She has worked as a classroom teacher, librarian and has led students with special environmental groups including Kids Teaching Kids and Wiggly Worms. Her work has been a memorable and enjoyable experience for many Sacred Heart students. We will acknowledge Rose’s amazing contribution at our Sacred Heart Feast Day Mass at the Sacred Heart Church on 24th June at 9:30am.

We had a wonderful early celebration of NAIDOC Day yesterday. We were lucky to have Sean Choolburra presenting for us as part of our celebrations. Sean engaged and shared with us his culture in a fun and engaging way. A big thank you to Uncle Will Hannah for also sharing his culture. As always, it is wonderful to have members of our local community share their culture and stories with us.
Have a great weekend everyone and God Bless!

Junior Unit News
This week's NAIDOC celebrations brought wonder and awe to the minds of our Junior Unit students. We were honoured by the visit from Uncle Will Hanna and Father Matt, who proudly treated our students to an Acknowledgement to Country & Blessing of Journey Poles.
Tuesday's festivities invited the extremely talented Sean Choolburra to Sacred Heart stadium. Our students thoroughly enjoyed his engaging presentation as you will see in the photos from this week.
Beginning at the entrance of our school, our students went on a walk of discovery, to proudly acknowledge the Latje Latje people. Students revisited each of the Moieties; Mumboola the Dreamtime serpent, Guthoo the sand goanna, Woorawa the eagle and Yillburri the emu. These are the moieties of the WakaWaka Nation gifted to us by Margrett Gilson to help protect and guide our children. Students have also experienced a variety of Indigenous arts and games this week.
Year One students are enhancing their knowledge of tricky words focusing on reading and spelling: two, three, four, why, house, because. We are revisiting plurals and our knowledge of adjectives, verbs, nouns though the story ‘Josphines wants to Dance’.
The Year Two students begin their new Show and Tell presentations in Week 8 and 9. The topic for students to share is "When I Grow Up". Please encourage your child to think about who they may want to be when they are older. They can bring in props or pictures of their aspiring occupation.
A friendly reminder that students will need to bring in a SOCK for their Performing Arts lesson next week. WE WILL SUPPLY the craft materials required for the sock puppet. Please ensure that your child/ren’'s jumpers/jackets are clearly named.
We wish you all a wonderful long weekend and look forward to seeing our students back on Tuesday.

Junior Neighbourhood Watch
The Year 6’s have been participating in a Junior Neighbourhood Watch Program, that means that the police come into our school and talk about how to be safe, crime prevention, and learning what police officers do. We have had lots of fun experiences throughout the semester. On Monday, we had them come in and talk about the different types of fingerprints and how they identify them. They told us all of the different types of fingerprints, the common ones and the rare ones. Then they let us have a go putting our fingerprints onto paper with ink. It was a great experience and I’m sure all of the Year 6 students enjoyed it.
