New School Website

Journey Pole Painting
On Monday and Tuesday classes will be painting their Journey Pole that is located on the edge of the oval on 12th Street. Painting these poles has been a tradition at Sacred Heart since 2010 when classes were “gifted” their own totem/journey pole as part of our NAIDOC celebrations. The poles symbolise what is “precious” and “sacred” to each of our classes. Each year our poles are painted over with a plain colour and then get painted on the top with the new design. What is on the pole is there always but is just hidden from view. Our very special poles are blessed each year as part of our NAIDOC celebrations.
We ask parents to provide children with an old shirt to bring to school to wear over their school clothes on Monday and Tuesday when they are painting their class Journey Poles.
Good Luck Miss Madden
Miss Madden begins Maternity Leave at the end of this term. We wish Miss Madden and her partner Josh all the best with the upcoming birth and look forward to hearing some exciting news in the near future. Thanks to Miss Madden for her contribution to support student learning over the past year.

Prep Unit News
Over the past couple of weeks we have introduced two new sounds to our bank! Please practise the sounds SATPIN MFR at home - here is the link on the correct articulation for these two new sounds Pronouncing the Alphabet Sounds. We have also spent some time with our buddies completing a buddy activity about our ancestry, discussed numbers that come before and after and started learning about the Zones of Regulation. Ask your child, ‘what feelings do I feel if I am in the blue zone?’ ‘What does it mean if I am in the blue zone?’
Here are a few points to help your child with their show and tell presentation:
- Select something that your child would like to share with his/her class.
- Talk about the item with your child - Why do you like it? Where did you get it from? What is special about it? Your child will need to talk about their show and tell for approximately 1 minute.
- Have your child practise in front of the family.
- Make sure they speak clearly, at an appropriate pace and with a volume that can be heard by everyone.
- Have your child begin their show and tell with ‘Good afternoon show and tell group (whichever class your child is in). Today for show and tell I have …..’ and then end their presentation with ‘Thank you for listening to my show and tell. Would anyone like to ask me a question?’
- Have a conversation with your child about what a good member of the audience does.
- Practise lots of times!

Junior Unit News
During the week, our students have worked incredibly hard to consolidate their learning on many different topics. They have also been reminded about the importance of frequent reading in the hope to make the students more aware of the purpose and benefits of reading each day.
All classes have also spoken about our school Journey Poles and their significance and history. Next week (Monday and Tuesday), we bring our 2022 NAIDOC Journey Pole creations to life and ask each child to bring in a smock/ old LARGE t-shirt to wear over their uniform whilst they are painting.
As we move closer to Easter, we will be visiting the Sacred Heart Church to investigate its symbols, the artwork and find out information about the statues and the stained glass windows. We will also revisit the Stations of the Cross to enhance our knowledge about Jesus' passion and death on Good Friday.

Please also start collecting craft objects that may be glued onto the socks to add interesting features to the character. E.g. pom poms, buttons, googly eyes, wool for hair, paper clips for glasses, felt and material scraps for clothes etc.
Students will be notified when they will be required to bring their socks to school, and if possible please bring extras for your friends in case anyone forgets.

Library
Library at Lunchtime
All children are able to come into the library at lunchtime. They may choose to play games like Chess or Blokus with their friends, play on the lego wall, colour in pictures or, of course, read with a friend! It is wonderful to see children socialising in the library with children they don’t necessarily play with, developing some wonderful social skills and enjoying themselves! It can also be a pretty ‘cool’ place on a hot day! Check out some of our children enjoying their time in the library at lunchtime!
