ISSUE 9: 25th March, 2022
Principal / Executive Leadership Team
Dear Parents, Carers, Staff, Students and Friends,
It is very hard to believe that we only have two weeks of school remaining for Term One.
Year 4 Camp
We wish our Year Four students all the best for their three day camp to Roses Gap. Students and teachers will leave at 7am on Wednesday, 30th March and return to school on Friday evening. We will inform parents of return time. This camp is a fantastic opportunity for children to develop their learning, social skills, independence skills, health and fitness and decision making. An enormous amount of work goes into organising a camp and so we must thank Miss Price and the Year 4 teachers for their many hours spent preparing for the camp. Have fun everyone!
Parish Mass - Myalla
We have Myalla participating in the Parish Mass at the church next Wednesday 30th March. Students will do some of the readings and jobs throughout the Mass. This celebration will begin at 9.30am and parents are welcome to attend.
School Sports Victoria (SSV) Girls and Boys Cricket
We wish our boys and girls cricket teams all the best for this week’s Division Cricket Finals which are being held at the Aerodrome Ovals. The boys games are on Wednesday 30th March and the girls games are on Thursday 31st March. Mr Burford will be the supervising teacher/coach on both days.
School Advisory Council
Our School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting will be held on Tuesday, 29th February at 5:15pm in the staffroom. An agenda has been sent home today for our SAC representatives.
Evacuation Drill
On Monday, 28th March we will practising our Evacuation Drill, as part of student safety and OH&S requirements. Students will hear an evacuation warning and be required to evacuate to the oval. If this may concern your child, we encourage you to discuss with them what will be happening at school.
Second Hand Parents and Friends Uniform Shop
As a response to current COVID measures we have developed an online system for Second Hand Uniform Shop orders. Please complete the order below and your information will be sent through to the School Office and our Second Hand Uniform Shop Co-ordinator. Our co-ordinator will strive to prepare the order at the next assembly when it will be packaged. Parents will then be contacted and can collect their package at the Office with payment required via eftpos before taking items home.

PSG Meetings
I would like to thank the parents who have attended Program Support Group (PSG) meetings and to Mrs Deacon who has scheduled these meetings with classroom teachers facilitating them. We have had over fifty meetings in the last two weeks.
Assembly - Myalla
Thank you to Myalla for hosting today's Assembly. Next week the Student Leadership Team will host the Assembly, which will be held in the Stadium at 2.30pm.
Class Contacts
We are seeking parents to volunteer to be class contacts for our classrooms in 2022. We still require people for Wahroonga, Bundaleer, Waminda, Kyema, Eumeralla, Minga, Amaroo, Yongana, Illawarra and Myalla. If anyone is able to assist or has any queries please contact Rebecca Siale on 0427 300 878. It would be great to fill these positions soon. Please see below for further information.
2023 Prep Enrolment
Enrolment processes will commence for new Prep students in 2023 at Sacred Heart from Friday 2nd April. Information will be sent out in next week’s newsletter. Enquiries, applications and meeting bookings will be online this year. The information will be included on our new website that will be launched later next week.
COVID Cases
Over this week we have three COVID cases impacting the classes of Mootwingee (Year 4) & Narooma (Year 6). We encourage families to complete their twice weekly RA Tests as some cases within the school have had no symptoms but testing has indicated a positive test. Please inform the school of positive cases.
Students with any COVID-19 symptoms should be tested for COVID-19 and kept home even if they test negative on a rapid antigen test, until their symptoms subside. If students display symptoms at school they will go to the sick bay and parents will be called to collect their child.
We hope everyone has a great week nine of term one.
Mr Gibson

Learning Diversity News
Thank you to the parents who attended the PSG meetings over the past two weeks. It was great to hear that so many students have made a positive start to the school year and have settled into their new classrooms. If you were emailed a copy of the PSG minutes, please ensure that you either sign digitally or print, sign, scan and send back to Mrs Deacon - jdeacon@shmildura.catholic.edu.au.
Next term’s scheduled PSG meetings will be for students who are supported via adjustments made to their program that are Substantial (most of the time) or Extensive (all of the time) and some Supplementary (some of the time) as deemed necessary by the classroom teacher. PSG meetings can be held at any time during the year also, depending on the necessity.
Prep Unit News
This has been our first 5 day week in Prep for 2022… and WOW we handled it like champions! On Wednesday we visited the Church to look at all the symbols that tell us we are Catholic Christians. We have also been collecting data in Maths and learning about what it means to be responsible both at home and at school during our Social and Emotional lessons.
On Thursday 26th May we will celebrate our Junior Unit Social. Our theme is AUSTRALIANA! This is a special night where parents and their child/ren in the Junior Unit (Prep/1/2) come together to perform dances for you and with you! We ask that babysitters be arranged for other siblings on this night as numbers are limited. More information will follow.

Junior Unit News
Over this term, the Junior Unit have been working on building relationships with each other, within our world and with each other. We have been reflecting on what a positive relationship looks like, feels like and sounds like and the importance of building safe and healthy relationships with each other.
Clock time and calendar time continues to be an area of focus this week with our students; investigating the significance of reading, writing and explaining time using different platforms (digital and analog) as well as exploring the vocabulary.

This term in Integrated Studies we have been learning all about healthy eating. To celebrate the end of a fantastic term of learning, we are planning on having a shared fruit recess on the final day of Term 1. We are asking students to bring in some fruit that is cut up in bite sized so we can create some rainbow skewers. Watermelon, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, oranges, grapes etc would be greatly appreciated.

This week our Year 5 and 6 cricket teams competed in our district interschool cricket. Both teams were successful in advancing to the division level next week and displayed great skill, teamwork and sportsmanship over both days. Congratulations to those students involved and we wish you the best of luck next week.

Some children were handed overdue notices this week. Please check at home on bookshelves, under beds, on the coffee table, etc for any library books and return to school as soon as possible. If you are unable to find these books, please email me on wcollins@shmildura.catholic.edu.au and let me know.
