ISSUE 2: 26TH FEBRUARY 2021
Principal / Executive Leadership Team
Welcome to our update for next week,
We did have very sad news this week with the passing of Thomas O'Connor who attended Sacred Heart as a student in 2019 and 2020. We have provided students and staff with opportunities to deal with this sad news and to celebrate Thomas and his families contribution to the school community. Jo Finlayson our Counsellor has provided support to students who have required it. Many students have completed work that has prayers and memories of Thomas that has been handed onto his family today. Today our staff have worn purple, Thomas' favourite colour, as a way of acknowledging and paying recognition to Thomas. We are trying to keep the school routine as normal as possible from here on but if your child is finding this situation difficult we encourage parents to contact myself, Jo or Mrs Deacon.
We have Tony Dalton visiting us on Monday morning to facilitate a ‘Learning Walk’ with parents. Tony will be here at 8.45am, with the Learning Walk taking place in the first hour of learning. We are still seeking parents to join us for this walk. If interested please fill out this survey before Monday. Learning Walk Attendance Form
After our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Breakfast was cancelled two weeks ago, we are very excited to be holding this event on Tuesday morning from 7:45am-8:40am. Tables & chairs will be set up on the oval area and families will sit together. We look forward to coming together as a school community, with indications that lots of families will be attending.
We wish Grace Brown, Liana McClaer & Evie Smythe all the best at this Wednesday’s Division Swimming, which is being held from 12.45pm at the Mildura Swimming Pool on Wednesday 3rd March.
We have our first class participating in this Wednesday’s Parish Mass at the church. Narooma and Mrs Campbell will take part in this week, which will include students doing some of the readings and jobs throughout the Mass. This celebration will begin at 9.30am and parents are welcome to attend.
We are offering two Year 5/6 Sport Parent Meetings on Thursday and Friday this week beginning at 8.30am in the staff room. The focus for these meetings to explain the sporting opportunities that are available for senior students this year and to outline SSV pathway, how we go about selection and to clarify any of their questions.
Thank you to parents who have volunteered to be class contacts for our classrooms in 2021. Our co-ordinator Rebecca Siale is still chasing class contacts for the following classrooms:
- Bundaleer (Year 1) - Mrs Maree Irvin & Mrs Wendy Collins
- Yongana (Year 3) - Mrs Cathy Rowles
- Mootwingee (Year 3) - Miss Sophie Price
- Nangare (Year 4) - Mrs Jacqui Willis & Mrs Emma Kotsiakis
If anyone is able to assist or has any queries please contact Rebecca on 0427 300 878. It would be great to fill these positions soon.
On Monday 8th March we have the Labour Day long weekend. From this day Prep students will need to attend school every day. If children are struggling to adjust to the full time format please don’t hesitate to talk to our Prep teachers Mrs O'Callaghan or Miss Sheridan.
Thank you to Mootwingee for hosting today's Assembly. Kyema is hosting next week’s Assembly, which will begin at 2.30 pm in the Stadium.
Mrs Maria Beer's mother-in-law passed away late last week. Please keep Maria and her family in your prayers at this difficult time.
Today we held an evacuation drill. The student's did a fantastic job with moving calmly onto the oval and following teacher instructions. In particular we would like to congratulate our Prep students who did this for the first time.
We have been having great difficulty in particular with our junior classrooms to fit lunch tubs into the fridges at school. The tubs are often overflowing and don't fit in the big fridges. This lead to lunch containers falling out of the big tub and sometimes getting mixed up with other classes. It is best if students have two smaller containers, one for their recess and one for their lunch.
Currently we are in the Church season of Lent with members of our school community encouraged to fast, pray and give to the needy that concludes with Easter. Prior to Lent children were given a Project Compassion Box to be returned prior to Easter. Please support this as generously as you are able to support those in need.
Last Tuesday we held combined School Advisory Council (SAC) and Parents & Friends (P&F) meeting that was facilitated by Chris Robarts. We had fifteen participants at the the meeting and plan to meet again on Wednesday 17th March from 5-6pm to plan how these groups can assist with our implementation of our School Improvement Plan and support us in improving outcomes for our students. Thank you to those that participated.
Thank you to the many Prep & Year Six buddies along with their parents who came together on Thursday for a picnic on the school oval. This was a fantastic gathering with students enjoying the opportunity and parents getting to meet others from our school community. As you can see from the photos everyone enjoyed the opportunity.
Congratulations to all students who represented the school with Division Tennis and District Cricket this week. It was great to hear that the students displayed outstanding behaviour and were great sports. The cricket team won and have gone through to the next stage.
We hope everyone has a great week six of term one.
