Gospel Reflection
This Sunday, we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ—Corpus Christi. It’s a reminder of the incredible gift Jesus gave us in the Eucharist, offering His presence, love, and nourishment in every Mass. As parents and carers, we are invited to reflect on how we too can be a source of love and strength for our children—sharing time, listening with care, and being present in the everyday moments. May this feast renew our sense of connection—with God and with one another—as we walk together in faith and community.
The Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) reminds us of the sacredness of gathering, sharing, and remembering—a theme that deeply resonates across many faith traditions.
In Judaism, the tradition of sharing bread and wine at the Passover meal mirrors Jesus’ actions at the Last Supper, where He reinterpreted these symbols as His body and blood. The idea of God being present in shared rituals is central to both traditions.
In Islam, while the practice of Eucharist is not present, the concepts of hospitality, fasting, and communal prayer during times like Ramadan highlight the spiritual importance of nourishment and reflection. Like the Eucharist, these acts draw believers closer to God and to one another.
In Hinduism and Buddhism, food offerings—prasad—are shared as a way of receiving blessing and connecting with the divine. It reflects gratitude and the understanding that food is both sustenance and a sacred gift.
So, while each tradition expresses it differently, the deep spiritual meaning behind sharing food, remembering sacred stories, and connecting in community is something we all hold in common. The Eucharist is a uniquely Christian way of living this truth, but its essence—love, presence, and communion—speaks a universal language.

Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff & Students,
What a wonderful week it’s been at Sacred Heart—full of energy, creativity, and heart!
Our students have truly shone at the Mildura Eisteddfod, performing with confidence and joy at the Mildura Arts Centre. It was fantastic to see so many of our students sharing their talents and representing our school with pride. Performances included:
- Our Year 3/4 dancers opened the week with a vibrant performance on Monday morning receiving an honorable mention.
- The Year 5/6 Choir sang beautifully on Wednesday placing 2nd in their section.
- On Thursday, both the Year 3/4 Choir and Year 1/2 Choir charmed the audience with their performances.
Each group brought something special to the stage and made us so proud. Thank you to the teachers, support staff, and families who helped prepare and cheer them on.
We also had a big week of sport, with several Sacred Heart teams competing in the SSV Division events. On Thursday, our boys’ and girls’ Football teams took to the field at the Mildura Sporting Precinct, and our girls’ Hockey team played with great spirit at the Aero Ovals. Today, our boys’ and girls’ Netball teams competed with enthusiasm and teamwork, showing strong sportsmanship throughout. Well done to all involved!
Meanwhile, our Second-Hand Bookstore ran throughout the week in the Library during recess. Students enjoyed browsing and picking up some new reads, with every dollar raised going toward Fr. Michael McKinnon’s missionary work overseas. A big thank you to everyone who contributed so generously.
Take a breath, because we’re gearing up for another big week!
Sacrament of First Holy Communion
This weekend, we hold in prayer our students who will be receiving their First Holy Communion—a sacred and joyful milestone in their faith journey. As they receive the Eucharist for the first time, we pray that this moment deepens their connection to Jesus and helps them feel His love and presence in their daily lives. We thank the families, teachers, and parish leaders who have supported these children in their preparation. May this celebration be filled with grace, joy, and a sense of belonging to our faith community.
We wish the following students receiving their Sacrament of First Holy Communion all the best over the weekend:

Learning & Teaching
Wellbeing
Sleep
When your child sleeps well, your child will be settled, happy and ready for school the next day. That’s because good-quality sleep helps your child concentrate, remember things, manage emotions and behave well. This all helps your child learn well.
Getting enough sleep is also important for your child’s health. That’s because it strengthens your child’s immune system and reduces the risk of infection and illness.
At 5-11 years, children need 9-11 hours sleep a night. For example, if your child wakes for school at 7 am and needs approximately 10 hours sleep per night, your child should be in bed before 9 pm.
For more information and helpful tips on sleep please visit the Raising Children network
Breakfast Club
Our Breakfast club continues to be popular on Tuesday and Thursday morning before school especially with the weather cooling down.
Have you ever heard someone say, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”? Well, guess what—it’s true! Eating a healthy breakfast helps your body and brain get ready for an awesome day.
- Breakfast Gives You Energy
When you wake up in the morning, your body is like a car that’s out of gas. Breakfast fills your tank so you have the energy to run, play, learn, and grow! Without it, you might feel sleepy or slow. - It Helps You Think Better
Did you know your brain needs fuel too? A good breakfast helps you focus in class, remember things, and solve problems. It’s like turning your brain power all the way up to MAX! - It Helps Your Body Grow Strong
Foods like fruit, eggs, cereal, and milk give your body vitamins, protein, and other goodies that help your bones and muscles grow strong and healthy. - It Puts You in a Good Mood
Have you ever felt grumpy when you’re really hungry? Eating breakfast can help you feel happier and ready to smile and start your day right! - It Helps You Stay Full Until Lunch
Breakfast keeps your tummy from rumbling too soon. That way, you can play, learn, and enjoy your morning without feeling super hungry.
SWPBS
Our SWPBS focus this week continues to be “Being Respectful”
Respect is a big word, but it’s made up of small actions that make a big difference! At school, showing respect means treating others the way you want to be treated. It helps everyone feel safe, happy, and ready to learn.
Here are some ways respect shows up at school:
Listening When Others Talk - When your teacher is speaking or a classmate is sharing, show respect by listening quietly. It means you care about what they have to say.
Using Kind Words - Words are powerful! Saying “please,” “thank you,” and “excuse me” shows you’re thinking about others' feelings.
Following Rules - Classroom and school rules are there to help everyone learn and stay safe. Respect means following those rules, even when it’s hard.
Taking Turns and Sharing - Whether it’s a toy, a book, or a game at recess—sharing and taking turns shows that you value others.
Helping Others - If someone drops their books, feels left out, or needs help understanding something, being kind and offering help is a respectful thing to do.
Taking Care of School Property - Respecting your school means keeping it clean, using supplies gently, and picking up after yourself.
When one person shows respect, others usually follow. So be the one who starts it—your actions can inspire your whole class!
Learning Diversity
PSG meetings are being held on Wednesday 25th & Thursday 26th June for students receiving substantial and extensive adjustments. Parents are encouraged to check PAM for their allocated meeting time. If you are unable to attend your scheduled time please contact Fiona Pike and we will do our best to reschedule your meeting. fpike@shmildura.catholic.edu.au

A Special Report: Eating Anxiety
The complexity of eating anxiety stems from a combination of social, psychological, and environmental factors. Young people may develop this anxiety due to social pressures related to eating in front of others, fears about body image, or due to more ingrained issues such as eating disorders. Additionally, cultural norms or dietary restrictions can also play significant roles, as can direct experiences like bullying or teasing related to food choices or eating habits.
Whilst not a formally recognised condition, eating anxiety is a genuine and often overwhelming experience that can significantly hinder a young person's ability to participate in everyday activities comfortably. This condition can lead to serious nutritional deficiencies and social withdrawal, impacting overall health and academic performance.
Recognising and addressing eating anxiety is crucial for parents, carer, and educators. Through education, policy changes, and community support, we can help young people manage their anxieties and improve their relationship with food, thereby enhancing their overall well-being and social interactions.
This Special Report will help you understand how best to support a child experiencing anxiety around eating.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.
Here is the link to your special report:

Foundation News
Last week, we announced the winners of the Lolly Jar guess competition. Congratulations to Evana M (Eumeralla) and Freya C (Minga). Thank you to all the Foundation students who participated as their donations fundraising for the Missions in Peru.

In Literacy, we have continued working on blending sounds to read and segmenting sounds to write. This week we have two new sounds /b/ and /j/. Practicing reading and writing these sounds will help to build students confidence. In Mathematics students have begun the 2 week topic on data. Students have an understanding that data is facts or information which helps us to learn about ourselves, the community and the world. We have been learning how to collect data (questioning and observing) and have started to represent data.
Please keep an eye out on Seesaw to see your child’s learning!
Reminders:
- For all students to have a small brain food snack of fruits or vegetables only
- All students to bring a full water bottle every day
Year One News
In Literacy, we have been learning about split digraphs (also known as bossy 'e'), focusing on a_e and i_e. Students have also been working on reading and writing our Tricky Words: before, after, and these. In writing, we are continuing to explore grammar, punctuation, and language conventions, with a focus on identifying nouns, verbs, and adjectives in our sentences. Be sure to check out Seesaw to see some of the fantastic learning happening in our classroom!
Missions
This week we revealed the winners of our Lolly Jar guessing competition. A big thank you to all the Year 1 students who donated coins to take part in the fun. Thanks to your generous contributions, most numbers were guessed, making this a great fundraiser in support of the Missions in Peru.
Congratulations to our winners: Aubrey from Amaroo and Harry from Yongana.
Calling for Recycled Drink Bottles!
We are collecting plastic drink bottles for an upcoming science project and would greatly appreciate any donations over the next week or two. These bottles will be used by students to create something exciting as part of their science learning.
If possible, please ensure the bottles are clean and label-free before sending them in. Thank you for your support!
We have recently had a number of incidents involving students becoming physical with one another. We kindly ask families to continue working in partnership with us by reinforcing positive behaviour choices and our school expectations at home. Your support is greatly appreciated as we want to work together to create a safe and respectful learning environment for all.
Have a fabulous weekend,
Katrina and Brieanna
Year Two News
Earlier this week we announced the winner of the Lolly Jar guess competition. A huge thank you to all the Year 2 children who brought in coins to have a guess of the lucky number. We were able to sell most numbers which meant this was a successful fundraiser for the Missions in Peru. Congratulations to our lucky winners: Mootwingee/Ari J and Nangare/ Jessica N. Jessica will definitely enjoy her prize when she returns from her family trip to Vietnam! What a lovely surprise that will be!

Science: for our upcoming Science experiments, all children will require a clear, empty plastic bottle with a lid. A 600-700ml sized bottle would be best. We would ask children to bring along a bottle next week in preparation.
Over the past week we have approved quite a number of Seesaw posts of your child’s work. Please take the time to share this learning with your child and send through an encouraging comment via Seesaw to them. They always get a thrill when they see that their parents have written a personal message to them! These Seesaw posts compliment your child’s Semester 1 report.

Year Six News
What a week it’s been for our talented Year Six students! From the stage to the sports courts, they’ve been out and about representing our school with pride and enthusiasm.
A huge congratulations to our Senior Choir, who sang their hearts out on Wednesday and took second place in their section — an amazing achievement! Their hard work and commitment really shone through on the day.
Our Senior Girls Hockey Team also gave it their all on the field on Thursday. While they didn’t make it through to the next round, their persistence, sportsmanship and positive attitude were a credit to them — well done, girls!
Today our boys and girls netball teams played with great teamwork and determination, proudly representing our school. A special shout-out to the boys team, who are moving on to the next stage of competition — fantastic effort!
We’re incredibly proud of all the effort, commitment and energy our students have put into preparing for these events. You’ve all done us proud!
In the classroom today, both Year Six classes have also been busy scientists and researchers. As they students conducted online research into various animal adaptations and interesting facts, and used their findings to create an informative dodecahedron — a 12-sided 3D display packed with fun and fascinating facts!
Looking ahead to next week, we’ll be wrapping up our science unit with a hands-on design challenge on Monday and Tuesday. Students will be putting their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test — and we need your help! If you have any spare cardboard boxes or recyclable materials at home, please send them in to support this activity. The more materials, the better!
Thanks for your continued support — we can’t wait to see what our clever designers create!

School Hats
It is school policy that hats should be worn from September 1st until May 1st whenever the children are outside at recess or lunch. Outside these times the wearing of a school hat is based upon the forecast UV rating. Foundation children have a light blue hat so that they are easy to identify in the playground.
Shoes
Parents are asked to give special attention to the shoes children wear to school. The uniform regulations specify black leather shoes. There are many styles on the market that fit this description, however parents are urged to avoid shoes that feature coloured stripes, logos or any other coloured decoration. Unless specifically authorised, (e.g. on Physical Education days) sneakers are not to be worn.
Socks
Specific attention is also drawn to the colour of the socks to be worn as part of the general uniform: pale blue for girls, grey for boys. Sacred Heart sports socks or plain white sports socks (with no logos or markings) are to be worn as part of the Physical Education uniform.
School Uniform Purchase
The Uniform Shop is run independently to the school through Totally Workwear. The shop is located at 87 Lime Ave, Mildura (Ph. 03 5021 4697).
Second Hand Uniform Shop
The Parents and Friends (P&F) operate a Second Hand Uniform shop. Opening hours are usually during our School Assembly times. All items for sale are donated and all proceeds go directly to the P&F to support our school. An order form is placed on our website https://www.shmildura.catholic.edu.au/school-uniform .
School Bags
School bags with the school emblem printed on them are available for purchase from Totally Workwear but are not compulsory.
Library Bags
All students require a Sacred Heart Library Bag (ordered through Totally Workwear) which is used to protect books borrowed from school as well as newsletters and other correspondence.
Lost Property
Please label ALL UNIFORM ITEMS with your child’s name. Lost property can be retrieved from breezeway between the courtyard and Olive Grove and if left unclaimed, will be donated to the second hand uniform shop.
Hair, Jewellery, Nail Polish & Make-Up
Students should keep their hair neat and tidy. Long hair that may cover the eyes must be tied back in a ponytail, plait, or similar style—this applies to both boys and girls. Hair accessories should be in the school colors: pale blue or navy blue.
Jewellery is generally not part of the school uniform, with a few exceptions:
- Earrings: Only plain studs (no glitter or dangling styles), with one stud per earlobe. No other piercings are allowed.
- Religious Medals: May be worn on a chain or pin but must be safe for play.
Nail polish and make-up are not allowed as part of the school uniform.
Arriving and Leaving Safely
Kiss & Go
To help keep everyone safe during drop-off and pick-up please take note of the following rules at Kiss and Go and the School Crossing that should be followed both in the morning (8:10-8:45am) and afternoon (3pm-3:30pm):
- Stay in your vehicle unless you need to assist younger students with their seat belts.
- Aim to keep your car in the Kiss & Go area for a maximum of two minutes to allow others to use the space too.
- Access the Kiss & Go only from Olive Grove, not 12th Street.
- Please refrain from dropping off students outside of cars in Olive Grove.
- Avoid performing U-turns within the Kiss & Go area.
- For your safety, use the school crossing if you need to cross 12th Street.
Thanks for helping us keep our school safe for everyone!

Pick Up and Drop Off Points
In the mornings, the Olive Grove gate will remain closed, so students and visitors can only enter through the 12th Street or Tamarisk Grove gates. After school, only the Olive Grove gate near the Art House will be open and supervised by a staff member. This change aims to enhance student and traffic safety.
Please ensure you find a suitable and permissible parking spot for your car in order to use these locations.

Riding Scooters & Bikes
Certain students walk, ride bikes, or scooters to school and are requested to use either the 12th Street entrance or the Tamarisk Grove entrance at the rear of the oval. Riding into or through the school grounds is not permitted.
Collect Children from School Grounds
Feel free to come into school to pick up your child directly from their classroom. It's an excellent opportunity to meet other parents, have casual conversations with teachers, and ensure your child is organised at the end of the day. If you choose this option, please park appropriately and be outside the classroom by the 3.10 bell; otherwise, your child will be directed to the supervised Kiss and Go area. Students and young siblings should refrain from using the playground equipment.
School Crossings
Students walking home are advised to use the school crossings on Twelfth Street, Walnut Avenue and Eleventh Street to safely avoid heavily trafficked roads. All crossings are supervised by a School Crossing Supervisor, and it's crucial to follow their directions. We also encourage parents to model expected behaviours by using the School Crossings also.
Buses
Several of our students catch buses home from the St. Joseph’s bus stop on 11th Street. Each day a teacher gathers these children together and accompanies them to the bus stop to supervise until they are all safely on the bus.
Drop Off Times
Preferred 'Drop Off' Time: 8.25 - 8.45 am. For safety reasons, please refrain from dropping off students before 8.19 am, as there is no supervision provided. Our gates open at this time.
Pick Up Times
Recommended 'Pick Up' Time: 3.10 - 3.25 PM. While we understand occasional delays, if regular or extending beyond 3.30 PM, please consider enrolling your child/ren in After School Care.
Walking or Riding Home
If your children walk or ride home or to your workplace after school, please submit written permission authorising them to leave unaccompanied. They must exit through the main 12th Street gate or accompany the 11th Street bus group through Tamarisk Grove.
Alternative Pick Up Places
For safety, we strongly advise against arrangements where children wait unsupervised at public pick-up locations like Walnut Avenue or St Joseph’s College.
EATING AND DRINKING AT SCHOOL
Healthy Eating
To sustain learning and promote healthy eating we encourage students to bring to school predominantly healthy food choices.
Brainfood
Students have a brain food break during the morning to keep children’s brains fuelled for learning. We ask that families send an extra fresh fruit or vegetable snack for children to have during this time. When sending the snack, please pack it separately from your child’s lunch in a small, named container so it can be placed on their desk each morning.

Lunch Snack
The main meal of the school day; a sandwich or roll, a salad or a slice of quiche. A healthy ‘treat’ may also be appropriate here that is healthy and gives long-term energy. Lunch is eaten usually in the classroom from 11:25am-11:40am.

Recess Snack
We encourage parents to pack fresh fruit or vegetables in your child’s recess snack box. You may like to pack one or two other snack items for them at this time. This snack is eaten at 1:40pm.

Packing Food
The school has a bank of refrigerators for the storage of students’’ food. For the ease of packing and unloading the fridges, we ask that parents provide separate, small, well-labelled containers or zip-lock bags for their child’s recess snack and lunch. Insulated ‘puffy’ lunchboxes and ice-blocks are not required.

School Canteen
Our School Canteen operates on a Wednesday and Friday and provides a range of lunch options at low cost. The current menu and prices can be accessed through and ordered via the CDFpay. This app is powered by Flexischools and you will need to create an account. Please download the CDF Pay App and ensure you create an account (the previous CDFPay doesn't transfer over to the app).
OFFICE INFORMATION
Office Hours
Office hours will run from 8:20am to 4:00pm every day. Phone calls can be made starting at 8:00 am.
Change of Personal Details
If there are any changes to your contact details (address/phone number/emergency contacts), kindly inform the office by calling 50231204, emailing office@shmildura.catholic.edu.au, or visiting the office in person.
Simon Everywhere and Parent Access Module (PAM)
Simon Everywhere is an App for smart phones that allows parents to access all information relating to their child/ren such as reports, attendance and much more. - Go to the App Store or Google Play Store and search Simon Everywhere
- Download and open the App and Allow Notifications
- Enter your name and phone number and press verify, you will receive a code via SMS
- Click on 'Add School'
- Select Sacred Heart Primary School, Mildura - Parent Access
- Enter your PAM username and password. If you do not know your credentials, please call the school.
Click on the Home icon.
Simon everywhere works best when notifications are turned on. You can check the notifications setting on your phone to be sure by going to the Settings – Notifications – Then find the Simon Everywhere App.
