ISSUE 12: 21st May 2021
Principal / Executive Leadership Team
Catholic Education Week commenced today and continues until next Friday. This year we recognise 200 years of Catholic Education across Australia. For 200 years, Catholic schools have educated millions of Australian students. The theme for this year is ‘Faith in the Future’, which speaks of the essence of hope in faith for our school communities in the future.
Unfortunately, Kaboom Kids (Tabloid Sports) have cancelled and are unable to run the event that was planned for Monday morning. This event has been postponed to next Monday, 31st May. We will continue as planned with parents coming in this Monday morning to enjoy a coffee and muffin from 8.15am onwards and to visit classrooms during the first hour of learning. We sincerely thank the Circosta family for donating muffins for all students and parents. Parents and staff will be able to purchase a hot drink from Shippy’s Coffee Van. Tables and chairs will be set up in the Stadium.
In the past we have celebrated a Mass for Catholic Education Week with all Sunraysia Catholic schools at the St Joseph’s College Mercy Campus. Due to current COVID restrictions we plan to incorporate aspects of 200 years of Catholic Education at our feast day Mass and depending on restrictions still plan to have a combined school's Mass during October.
We wish our Year 5/6 netball and soccer teams all the best at this Wednesday’s Winter District Sport. Students will play games against St Paul’s, Trinity Lutheran & Henderson College. Soccer is being held at the Aerodrome Ovals and netball at Sarah Oval. Mrs Thompson and Mr Burford will attend with our netball teams and Mr Barbary and Mrs Zappia with our soccer teams.
We congratulate all Year 5/6 students who are receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend and hope that these are memorable celebrations for all involved. Thanks to parents and staff who have assisted students in preparation for this.
Families of Grade 6 students are reminded that enrolments are still being accepted for 2022 at St Joseph’s College. Please contact the Admissions and Communications Manager, Mrs Tracy Aston on 5018 8034 or via email taston@sjcmda.vic.edu.au for further information and an application package.
Thank you to Bundaleer for hosting today’s Assembly. Minga is hosting next week’s Assembly, which will begin at 2.30pm in the Stadium on Friday.
Enrolments applications have now closed for 2022 Preps. Our transition meetings will continue on Monday and have been a great opportunity for students to meet with our Prep unit leader Mrs O’Callaghan and parents with myself to begin the process of transition into school. I will meet soon with Fr Matthew and Vince Muscatello (Principal of St Paul’s) to finalise enrolments before enrolment acceptance letters are sent out on 11th June.
Well done to our Year Six students for their participation and positive behaviour during their camp to Melbourne last week. Huge thanks to Mrs Campbell, Mr Barbary, Mr Burford, Miss Zappia and Mrs Thompson for their supervision, coordination and preparation of the camp. Such a wonderful experience for our students.
We remind everyone that students should not be bringing any unnecessary (cards, cars, toys, poppits etc) or particularly valuable items to school. Please, avoid bringing these items as it can be most upsetting for all concerned if items go missing or are damaged. As a school we have many items that students can play with at school including toys and sports equipment during breaks. We also have many sensory products that students can access if it is required for that student. Students can bring these items on days of Show and Tell but they should be kept in a safe place e.g. bag or special place in the classroom. Thank you for your cooperation.
The environment plays such a vital role in education and is often referred to as the “third teacher”. Today our video is mainly looking at our Middle Unit classrooms and showing some of the supports we have to assist students with their learning and behaviour regulation. We hope you enjoy!
God Bless,
Mark Gibson

Canteen News
Please be advised that you can no longer cancel lunch orders online. This has come about due to parents running a continuous credit and not using this up on the next lunch order placed.
If you require to cancel an order, please phone the office (50231204) during school hours. Your label will be given to the canteen and you may use this order on another day, by phoning the school and placing that order. This will only be valid for one month.
If when logging onto your account you see that you have a credit, please use the credit and not pay with a Credit Card. All current credits will be valid until the end of this Term (25th June). If unused they will be not valid after that date.
To use a credit on your account you order your child’s lunch as normal. Once you have submitted your order, the option to use the credit on your account will come up in the payment section. Please be aware you cannot use Bank Transfer, only Credit Card to pay any balance owing after the credit has been used.
