Dear Parents, Carers, Staff, Students & Friends
Well done and thank you to all staff, students and families for your hard work, commitment and dedication throughout term. It has been a busy term with many achievements and successes along the way. We look forward to a great week this week to conclude Term Two.
Farewell - Ms Bianca Niutta & Miss Isabella Vartuli
We farewell two staff members in Ms Bianca Niutta & Miss Isabella Vartuli at the end of this week. Ms Niutta, her husband Scott and their son Ted are relocating to Ballarat in the next couple of weeks, whilst preparing for their newest addition to the clan. We thank Ms Niutta for her great contribution to our school community over the last four years and in particular her work as Teaching & Learning Leader over the past 12 months. All the best to you and your family Ms Niutta! Miss Vartuli is heading off on some overseas adventures. We thank Miss Vartuli for her work supporting middle unit classes and students over the last two terms. Good luck Miss Vartuli!
Staffing Update
We are pleased to inform the school community that Mrs Kailla Coffey will take over the Teaching & Learning Leader role when Ms Niutta finishes at the end of this term. Mrs Coffey brings a wide range of educational experiences to this role and is looking forward to working closely with our teachers. Mrs Coffey will be working part-time from Wednesday to Friday. We will welcome Mrs Xana Priestley back at the beginning of Term Three, where she will fill the part time position in Nangare which Mrs Coffey has been doing. Congratulations Mrs Coffey and welcome back Mrs Priestley.
Catholic Leadership Award - Mrs Marion Guthrie
As many will be aware, Mr Gibson & Mrs Carmichael attended the Catholic Education Week's Awards night in Ballarat at the end of May. They were privileged to receive Mrs Guthrie’s Catholic Leadership award on behalf of Marion who was overseas on Long Service Leave. Given this, Mrs Carmichael organised a reenactment presentation on Thursday morning. Marion’s husband Luke attended, along with her sons Marcus and Simon and her daughter in laws Sandy and Kate. Also, joining the celebration were grandchildren Henry, Charlie, Johnny & Emmy and all of the Sacred Heart staff. It was a wonderful moment shared where we were able to acknowledge Marion’s significant contribution to our school, local parish and overseas communities. Please take the time to read about Marion’s inspiring work. Congratulations Mrs Guthrie!
Division Football & Hockey
Congratulations to our boys and girls Football & Hockey teams who performed well and showed great sportsmanship at Wednesday’s Division Finals. Special mention to our girls Football Team who were the overall winners and have now qualified for the Region Finals which will be held in Swan Hill on Thursday, 3rd August. Thanks to Mr Burford, Mrs Rowles, Miss Matthews & Mrs Beckwith for supporting our teams.

Evidence of Learning- School Reports & Seesaw
When you receive access to your child’s Semester One school report, please read it carefully alongside their Seesaw digital learning portfolio. The work samples and comments contained in Seesaw, along with other work samples children have bought home or completed at school will help you understand why teachers have assigned your child’s achievement standard against each curriculum area.
You are strongly encouraged to have read your child’s report prior to attending Parent Teacher Interviews so that you can ask questions to clarify your child’s achievement and better understand where they’re at.
Prep Unit News
We are fast approaching the end of Term 2…. what a fast and busy term we have had. This week we started our training for Athletics Day - we learnt shot put, discus and the vortex throw. Athletics Day is on the 9th August and is a day where the students participate in mini Olympic style events. The students have also been doing a lot of work on their Seesaw Learning Portfolios. This is an excellent collection of all the work we have been learning this term and the growth that has been made.
Some reminders for the beginning of term:
- School starts at 8:45am each day. If you are at school after 8:45am you will need to sign your child in at the office.
- Your child’s library bag needs to be at school every day - kept in their school bag.
- Sports days are Tuesday and Wednesday - sports uniform is needed.
- Practise the sound and fluency chart each night to develop automaticity. Automatic recognition of letters/sounds is extremely important in reading and writing.
- Read and record ‘Enhanced Comprehension’ and ‘Reader’ in the reading diary each night.
- Library books are to be returned to school on Fridays.

Year Six St Joseph's Visit 2023
On Thursday, the Year Six students from Sunraysia arrived at St Joseph's College Enright Campus to take a look at their possible future high school. We were split into 7 groups, and started off our day with a tour of the campus. Following that, we went into our first class of the day. Group One started off with some sport. We played backboard on the recently constructed courts. Group Six had Maths first up where they created a 3D cube out of coloured paper. Iit was difficult at first, but then they got the hang of it. After one more class the bell rang and we were dismissed to recess. We enjoyed a packet of chips and a juice box that was provided by the school.
Then after a 25 minute break, we went back to class for two periods. Group six had Sport and played a game called speed ball, then went into Science to make slime and learn about the safety precautions to take like wearing lab coats and safety glasses. We talked about how slime is neither a liquid nor a solid. It's a semi liquid or you can call it a semi solid semi liquid. After everyone finished their two periods the bell went to indicate it was lunch time. We were provided with sausages and fruit boxes. Some of us went to the oval and others found a bench to sit and chat to friends. There was jumbo chess and also 4 in a Row.
After an hour and 15 minutes we went back to our last class. Group One had English and learnt that writing isn't just English, it is also communicating. We had to figure out the oldest to youngest student without talking. It was a bit of a challenge. After all the fun we had, we reflected on the day. We met so many new people and new teachers who were all very welcoming. We are very excited to start Year 7 next year!
