Principal / Executive Leadership Team
Dear Parents, Carers, Staff, Students and Friends,
It’s amazing to think that we are at the end of Week 6, with just three weeks left in this term. Thank you to parents for your support with keeping children home when they are unwell. Hopefully, we are getting through this little period of illness and we can have everyone back on deck doing what we do best. We have lots of exciting things happening over the next few weeks.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Congratulations to our students who celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation last weekend. Each of the masses were well attended by school families and staff. Thanks to everyone for contributing to these celebrations and supporting students.
District Netball & Soccer
Well done to our boys and girls Netball & Soccer teams who competed in District games today. All students represented the school in a positive manner and showed great sportsmanship.

Wednesday @ 10am - Middle & Senior Choirs
Thursday @ 1.30pm - Rock Band

School Fees
Just a reminder to parents that it's getting to the middle of the year and families who have chosen to pay their school fees over the year, will need to be aware that at least half of the fees are now due and the remainder must be finalised by 14th September. If you have any queries please contact Mrs Mary Avery in the office.
2024 Prep Enrolments
Please note 2024 enrolment applications have now closed. Letters of offer will be sent to families on Friday the 16th June.
Instrumental Music Lessons
Sacred Heart is lucky to have Maddy Barbary available for Year 4-6 students to receive instrumental lessons at Sacred Heart during or after the school day. Lessons can be offered in flute (classical), flute (folk), recorder, saxophone, clarinet or piano. Maddy is in her final year of study at The University of Melbourne’s Conservatorium of Music studying a Bachelor of Music.
Maddy will offer a $270 per term program for each student and will offer a choice for individual lessons or group lessons that can be arranged with parent consultation. This allows for at least 8 lessons each term. Time slots would be 25 minutes for individual lessons and 35 minutes for paired/group lessons.
If interested please contact Maddy directly on 0457 081 016 or email maddy.barbary20@gmail.com
Assembly
Thank you to Waminda for hosting today's Assembly. Our School Choir will be hosting next week’s Assembly which will be held in the Stadium on Friday at 2.30pm. All welcome to attend.
Have a great weekend everyone and God Bless!

Learning and Teaching News
School Reports
Teachers are currently writing mid-year reports. These reports will reflect your child’s learning over the last two terms. Teachers assess the children in the curriculum areas taught and evidence of this can be seen on your child’s Seesaw portfolio. When reports are released, we encourage you to read them and book a Parent Teacher Interview (Week 10) to further discuss your child’s learning.
Book Fair
Our book fair was a roaring success! We sold over $5300 of books which equated to $1500 in commission of Scholastic Rewards for the school to spend on resources for the classrooms and books for the library. There are still a handful of children awaiting the delivery of their reordered books- they will be delivered to their classrooms as soon as they arrive. I extend my sincerest gratitude to you for supporting the fair and encouraging your children to read!

Prep Unit News
The hard work continues in Prep this week with new sounds and tricky words added to our bank of knowledge. The sounds you will need to be continually practising at home are: m, s, t, a, p, i, n, f, r, o, c, h, d, e, g and the tricky words: I, the, my, a, is, was, you, to, they, that, said. We have also been creating our own sentences using our sounds and some tricky words. Practising writing at home will greatly benefit all students learning - Nat sat in the tin, Sam is in the mud, Pat is in the pit. We have been working super hard to perfect our dancing ready for the Junior Unit social. A reminder that this event is on Thursday 8th June from 6pm (arrive at 5.45pm). We will be paying tribute to the late, great Tina Turner at our Junior Unit Social, so here is a link for you to practise the dance moves with your child at home.
Now that the weather is getting colder, here is a reminder of what our students need to be wearing in regards to winter school uniform.
Some reminders for the beginning of term:
- Please cover your child’s reading diary in clear contact.
- School starts at 8:45am each day. If you are at school after 8:45am you will need to sign your child in at the office.
- Your child’s library bag needs to be at school every day - kept in their school bag.
- Sports days are Tuesday and Wednesday - sports uniform is needed.
- Practise the sound and fluency chart each night to develop automaticity. Automatic recognition of letters/sounds is extremely important in reading and writing.
- Read and record ‘Enhanced Comprehension’ and ‘Reader’ in the reading diary each night.
- Library books are to be returned to school on Fridays.

Junior Unit News
We have been preparing for an upcoming super exciting week.
On Tuesday our Junior Unit Choir will be performing at the Mildura Eisteddfod, leaving school for the Mildura Arts Centre at 10am and returning at approximately 12:30. Students are to wear their correct winter school uniform to the Eisteddfod.
Next week we ask all Junior Unit students to wear their sports uniform on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in preparation for the Junior Unit Social.
Our Junior Unit Social will take place THIS coming Thursday (8th June) with students required to be at school by 5:45pm for a 6pm start.
Each family is required to bring a plate of food to share for supper, along with their drink bottle
On Thursday, Barramunga, Nangare and Karinya classes attended the SH Parish Mass with Fr John. Students enjoyed asking Fr John and ex-student Joseph Zudetich questions and because of the children's impressive listening skills and manners, they were confused for Year 6 students! (Which the children thought was fantastic)
Many thanks to Signora Cirillo for the time, effort and planning that went into our students ‘Trip to Italy’. The students had a fantastic experience getting their passport, boarding the plane in their allocated seats, arriving in Italy, exploring the sites and enjoying traditional Italian biscuits.

Senior Unit News
In Year 5 this week we have been conducting science experiments using puppets and shadows.
Friendly reminder to all parents to log into Seesaw and have a look at your child’s learning they have been doing at school. This is a great conversation starter for at home discussions about school and what they have been up to. Feel free to write a positive comment back to your student for them to read.

Italian News
Usa la tua immaginazione- Imaginary Trip to Italy in our School Library.
Buon Viaggio
Our trip began in our school Library where students presented their Passports to Security then waited for boarding. Once Cabin crew assisted with seating onto the aeroplane our Sacred Heart Primary school passengers watched the in-flight safety demonstration, as the students safety was of the highest priority. Finally after a long flight and a bumpy landing we all arrived safetly in Italy. On the adventure throughout Italy's cities & landmarks students used basic Italian they have been practising in lessons. We were fortunate that a coffee shop was open in Napoli where students were able to taste an Italian biscotto ‘Savoiardi’.
